Strangers Coffee House

Sunday, 30 March 2014

The other day, the weather was pretty beautiful where I live in Norwich, so my housemate and I went out for a spontaneous lunch. Norwich has so many great, independent cafes and shops in the city, which I love. You can find really individual places. We went to a place called Strangers Coffee House which was super cute. We both had some really nice sandwiches, my housemate opted for a coffee and I went for a green tea since I'm trying to get back into eating a lot healthier. We also picked up a couple of things to satisfy our sweet tooths from a little cafe nearby called Biddy's Tea Room, I went with the Mint Chocolate Cupcake. If you ever get the chance to come up to Norwich, I really recommend a lot of the places along the Lower Goat Lane area, and I think I'm going to be doing a few more lifestyle posts about these places for the next few weeks if you are interested!

Made Up: For The Gym

Wednesday, 26 March 2014

Top to Bottom: No 7 Stay Perfect Mascara; Maybelline Brow Drama in Medium Brown; L'Oreal Lumi Magique Concealer in Light; Rimmel Scandaleyes Eyeliner in Bronze; Revlon Colour Burst Lip Butter in Juicy Papaya.
Taking a slightly different approach to this week's Made Up post, in lieu of Sunday's fitness post, I thought I'd focus more on my saviour products when it comes to frequenting the gym. You know how it goes, you go to the gym bare faced, come out looking like a sweaty, hot mess and then have somewhere to be where you need to look fairly presentable, and fast. The gym I go to is actually my uni gym, so fitting in a workout between lectures is a fairly common thing for me, but I hate looking like a shambles afterwards, so with the bare minimum of products, all in stick form so that I can save space, I attempt to throw together a look.

First and foremost, I skip the base, mainly because I don't suffer with too bad skin anyway, and I find after a workout and a face wash, my skin is normally at its best. Don't ask me about the science behind it, I'm no expert, but I just find it looks a bit more radiant that usual. It is also one of the few times when my deathly pale skin does not require a pop of colour to the cheeks, so base wise I just stick to an illuminating concealer. I love the L'Oreal Lumi Magique for this, it's one of the best illuminating concealers that the high street has to offer. (If you feel like you need that extra pop of colour No 7's new Pop and Glow Sticks are awesome, and if you want a bit more of a base the Maybelline Fit Me Foundation Stick may be right up your street.) Next up, I tame the brows with the Maybelline Brow Drama Gel. It's a great way to quickly look a bit more presentable by combing through the flyaway hairs. Eye wise I stick to a quick bronzed look in the form of Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Bronze, which I apply to the lid and blend out with my finger, and then apply the No 7 Stay Perfect Mascara to my lashes. These are both waterproof so they'll be sticking around regardless of whether you are still feeling a little sweaty or not (I'm hoping not). Finally just a quick slick of lip balm in the form of Revlon Colour Burst Lip Butter in Juicy Papaya, a gorgeous sheer coral shade which really brightens up the face!

What do you throw on after the gym?

Spring Nails

Monday, 17 March 2014

L to R: Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint in Lychee; Essie in Fiji; Topshop Nails in Parma Violet; Rimmel 60 Seconds in Little Bo Peep; Topshop Nails in World's End; Bourjois One Second Gel Nail Polish in Pom.
Spring is rolling around and the typical pastel nail shades are rearing their heads again, however, the My Little Pony pastels have grown up slightly in favour of more neutral pastels. However, you can't tear me away from some of my yearly favourites so I have left them in too.

A Weekend At The Beach

Sunday, 16 March 2014

Recently I headed down to Bournemouth again to see the boyfriend, and I know I did a lifestyle post on it before Christmas, but it is definitely one of those places that comes alive in the sun. Prepare yourself for a very photo heavy post featuring the beach, cheeky Space NK purchases, Harry Ramsden's Fish and Chips, some incredibly tasty breakfasts and the sun!

L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Intense Elixir

Monday, 10 March 2014

L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Intense Elixir - £15.99*
I have had a pretty interesting history with fake tan. Being pretty darn pale, fake tan has been a small necessity at times and I have done the rounds when it comes to the drugstores offerings. I'm talking moisturisers, gels, mousses, you name it, I've probably tried it. I found my favourite in the Rimmel Sun Shimmer Instant Fake Tan (matte edition of course), but when I was sent this I was keen to see how a long lasting fake tan would suit me up against Rimmel's instant tan offering, especially since they are rebranding that range right now and I can see it being faded out of stores...

Springtime Staples

Vichy Idealia BB Cream, Stila Convertible Colour in Liium; Revlon Colour Burst Lacquer Balm in Demure, Revlon Colour Burst Matte Balm in Unapologetic; Revlon Colour Burst Lip Butter in Juicy Papaya; No 7 Eye Shadow; Soap & Glory Glow All Out
With all the sunshine that’s been about lately, I feel like spring has definitely sprung, and with that I’ve been rotating my make up and beauty stash to include a few more seasonally appropriate items. I’ve gone and split this up into two posts, with my make up bits being featured today and my spring nail picks coming up in a few days.

The first thing I find an essential in spring is a dewy, glowing complexion. I normally go for a few illuminating products from day to day anyway, but when spring comes around, I up the glow a tiny bit more. A great base for this is the Vichy Idealia BB Cream - I have the lighter shade - this stuff packs a pretty great illuminating punch. Not too over the top or in your face, this is the perfect foundation to spring make up.

I’m a fan of cream blushes all year round to be honest, but when the sun starts coming out a bit more I leave the cream to powder formulas to the side for a bit and opt for wetter cream formulas. The Stila Convertible Colours are a fab example of this, but another great choice would be Max Factor’s Cream Blush. I like a bit of a highlight on the top of my cheekbones as well, and the Soap & Glory Glow All Out powder leaves a really nice, subtle glow to the higher points of the face.

For eyes, I tend to go a bit more delicate when spring rolls around. I try to veer away from the heavy black liner and go for sweet pastel colours. I love this lilac shadow from No 7 because the purple works well with my eye colour, but it’s also a great eye opening shade. Annoyingly the colour isn’t on the pot, but if you look for the lilac shade on a No 7 stand I’m sure it would be the same one.

Finally lips. To me spring means one thing in terms of bold lips. It’s time to whack out the hot pink again. I love bright pinks for spring, so the Revlon Colour Burst Matte Balm in Unapologetic is perfect. As for more day to day looks, I like a nice coral or pinky nude, the Revlon Colour Burst Lip Butter in Juicy Papaya has been my go to colour recently, but the Revlon Colour Burst Lacquer Balm in Demure is also nice for quick and easy application in spring.

What are you spring picks for this year? Remember to stay tuned for my spring nails post in a few days!

BLOGGERS GREAT AND SMALL TAG

Friday, 7 March 2014

The lovely Nikki from Floral Sundays tagged me to do this aaaaaages ago, so I'm sorry that it took me so long! Her blog is fab so make sure you check it out! I thought for the month of March, I'd do something a bit different and do a TAG every Friday so you guys get a bit more of an insight into me! Hope you enjoy!

1.What makes you want to blog?
I started blogging to give myself something to do that would fill up my spare time, but it's become a real passion of mine now and I do it because I like to think that a look I feature or a review I write will inspire someone.

      2.Your Morning skin routine?
I've been slacking a bit on the skincare front recently - naughty naughty - but when I can actually be bothered I stick to this routine.

3.Your favourite blogger?
This is a difficult one because I have so many that I read but I think it would have to be Anna from Vivianna Does Make Up, mainly because I feel like her personality really comes through in her writing. I did a post on my favourite bloggers not long ago, you can find it here.

      4.     A beauty product you couldn’t live without?
My Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream, it's a life saver.

      5.     Your favorite make-up brand (drugstore)?
I think that one is a draw between Rimmel and Revlon. Love their stuff.

      6.     Your favourite make-up brand (High-end)?
I'm not the best advocate of high end make up (student and that) but I think my Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette is amazing so I'll go with them.

      7.     What is your staple wardrobe item?
Skinny Jeans and a statement necklace. You can't go wrong.

I tag everyone and anyone who wants to do this post, but make sure you comment so I can read it!

Vichy Idéalia BB Cream

Vichy Idéalia BB Cream - £21.00*
Vichy is a brand that I always hear a lot of from make up artists, especially the Dermablend range, and one that I have always been keen to try. I wanted to pick this up a few times and never got round to it, so when I finally got my hands on one I put it straight to work.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TINY ALIS

Saturday, 1 March 2014

I don't usually post on Saturdays but I thought I would make a little exception for today. One year ago today I started posting on my little corner of the internet, and although it was consistent and then inconsistent and then consistent again, it is something I have come to be very proud of. I can remember the first day when 2 people read the first post, and gradually the views have gone up and it's become a little bit more popular.

I really have never been one of those people who wanted to do this for the freebies, it was a little place where I could go and contribute my thoughts to people who liked to read them. I hope the next year brings even more readers to Tiny Alis, and with moving to America and other exciting things coming up, there is no clue where it's going to take us!

P.S There may be a little giveaway coming up soon so make sure you stay tuned!
